    • A dosing funnel is intended to keep espresso grounds contained during distribution and tamping.

    • Confirmed that PLA plastic was safe for dry food contact (coffee grounds). It was found that PLA is non-toxic when dispensed through a stainless steel nozzle, but should stay clear of moisture as the layer grooves are porous.

    • First, a test fit ring was designed and printed to confirm tolerances and dimension compatibility with minimal material use.

    • Once a fit was established for the base, the upper was designed with principles of function and form in mind:

      • The curvature was intended to make a smooth aesthetic transition from the handle to the funnel.

      • The dimensions had to work within minimum width restrictions of the printer’s nozzle. Chamfers and fillets were added to smooth sharp edges with infinitely small width.

      • Aimed to balance small footprint with effective height for grounds containment.

    • The STL file was sliced in Bambu Lab’s printer software and exported to 3D-print.
